Recognizing a true hero

Last week a soldier from our area, a 26-year old Army 1st lieutenant, was killed in combat in Iraq.
I've written two short stories for the paper about this tragedy, and am dreading covering the funeral tomorrow. I will just sit quietly in the back of the church and take notes.

Tomorrow morning veterans and emergency personnel will salute as the funeral procession travels to the church in a neighboring town.

I don't want my readers to think that I think this is about me at all. I am simply trying to post a tribute to this fine young man, a true hero. You can read about him here, and here.

He will be buried in December in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. My condolences to his family.

The cost of war is written on millions of gravestones. Thank you for your tribute to a fine young man.

Very nicely done, Patti, and I know it isn't easy writing tributes to those who have paid the ultimate price but I'm so glad that this fine young man will be remembered via your writing.

Chin up my friend!
