Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Yuletide

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas..."

Our town's Christmas tree.

And here's a slightly different angle.

Spotted this at a religious book store in Derby, Ct. about which I wrote a story in December.

I'm happy to be back posting photos. The weeks are flying by, that's for sure.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Since we are expecting snow to fall later today I thought I'd re-post an oldie but goodie I captured a few winters ago.

I love gnomes! It says Gnome for the Holidays on the bottom of the ornament.

I also love snow people!

Wishing a Happy New Year 2013 to all ~ May this year be your best ever.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Holidays are here

Yesterday I visited the Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby, Ct. to write a story for the newspaper.

It was the lifelong home of businesswoman and philanthropist Frances Osborne Kellogg.

Each year area garden clubs do a wonderful job decorating the 19th-century house for the holidays. The house opened for the season Friday.
It's my own tradition to go there each year the day after Thanksgiving and check out the decor.

This year's theme is "Holiday in Bloom."

I didn't have my camera with me but I managed to get some photos off of a video I recorded.

In the living room one club set up a retro display. It included a "Charlie Brown tree" and a tabletop tree made from white toothpicks, as well as this tinsel tree. Remember them? I do.

In the background is a display of illuminated ceramic trees placed on the piano.

Here's a better shot of the ceramic ones.

This beautiful fireplace with its decorated mantel is across the living room from the piano.

The formal dining room decked out in greens and golds.

Ralph saw shadows in these photos and urged me to use them here. So I did.

We had a merry...hope you did too

Grandma didn't get run over by a reindeer so all is good.

So, now it's time to share a corny post-Christmas riddle. It's a groaner.

Q. Where does Santa put his red suit after Christmas?

A. In the Claus-et

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Merry Christmas to all!

Ralph took this photo last night after I was asleep. Santa was waving to him through the front window!
Quite the capture, if I do say so myself.

Ah, that would be the perfect picture for Ruby Tuesday - too bad Christmas came on a Thursday this year or Ralph would have had the perfect shot!

What's the rush?

All over the neighborhood I see nothing but Christmas decorations.

Ack! It's November, people.
I really love Christmas, but this weekend I've been feeling like Scrooge.

Bah Humbug!

Minor miracle, horticulturally speaking

Yup, my poinsettia is still with us eight months after Christmas.

This has never happened before.

* Happy Birthday to us *

Christmas, birthdays, and a new year all rolled up into one.

It was 22 years ago yesterday that our beautiful daughter was born. She was quite the birthday present for me!
And I was about 22 at the time.
Hahaha ... OK, I wasn't.

I'm just happy she didn't arrive on Dec. 25. That must be a tough day to have a birthday.

And today would have been my father's 100th birthday, so I, his only child, was his birthday present!
He was an "older dad," and when I was little some of my friends thought he was my grandfather.

Here's Allegra on her birthday modeling a Turbie Twist my mother got for her. It was a good gift, since she never quite got the hang of putting her wet hair in a towel.

Ralph devoted a post to us. Just click on his name to read.

Happy almost New Year to all.

Sending fond greetings

That's a new one.
I've never heard of anyone sending fond greetings for Christmas. Ah, those wacky Victorian-era people and their holiday sayings!

This is a "new" vintage Christmas card ~ not a repost from 2008 when I posted a bunch of them. Just to be clear here..

Happy Yuletide season to all!

Let the festivities begin!

Yesterday I bought these three tiny trees to put in the front yard. Today I splurged and got the goose family. It's a Christmas Goose and her goslings.

'Tis the season to get festive. The decorating has begun. Once I start there is no stopping me. I know, I'm a wild woman.

Online shopping today?

Not moi, but I guess many people are..I'm just not in the Christmas spirit. Or the shopping spirit, for that matter!

I have a few gift ideas rolling around in my head.
In our extended family we enjoy a wacky Yankee Swap on Christmas Eve. The other day I saw a perfect gift that is sure to be "swapped" around the room.
It's a George Washington Chia head.
There are several other Chia choices, including our current president, but I liked ol' George the best.

I think it will elicit a few laughs. ;-D

Happy Cyber Monday for those who partake.

Chex this out ->

One of our traditions was started several years ago by Kid Two, who decided one December day he wanted to make Chex Party Mix for our extended family's Christmas Eve get-together.
So we bought all the ingredients listed on a Chex cereal box, and young Cameron was on his way.

This year he kept to his tradition, but tweaked the traditional recipe a tad. No more Wheat Chex, he said, because he just doesn't like them. He eliminated the mixed nuts and just went with cashews and peanuts, if I recall correctly!
He also added oyster crackers to the seasoned blend that includes bagel chips and mini-pretzels.
If you've never made it before, the recipe involves putting the mixture in a low oven and stirring it every 15 minutes for an hour.
I took a picture of it before we left, and realize now that I should have taken the plastic wrap off the bowl.
But you get the idea.
I almost used this for a Sepia Scenes post. It would fit right in with the color scheme of that meme!

Santa startled me a bit

Our niece sent some photos from Christmas Eve. The holiday fun continues here on my blog. Ho Ho Ho

Thanks, Christina!

Still celebrating ...

Our birthday cake is gone (sorry Bee) but tonight we are going to an Italian restaurant for dinner and for dessert we are going to have tiramisu! Yummy.

The season's festivities continue for us. It's still the Twelve Days of Christmas and all, you know!
Plus today is a special day for me because it's my late father's birthday. Let me say first he was a much older dad before I tell you that he would have been 99 today.
Yep, he was born in 1910.
I was his birthday present, like Allegra was my birthday present in 1988.

Ruby Tuesday ~ Christmas fun

See how happy Ralph looks to meet Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. He doesn't like posing for photos, but I think this one came out well. His sister, Sharon, looks like she is enjoying Santa's visit too.

I also had "fun" meeting Santa that night, but he got a bit too close. He sat on my lap! Yikes.
I think someone in the family got a photo of that. At least I hope so.

To see more photos with a little or a lot of red, visit our hostess, Mary T, at Work of the Poet.

Santa arrived at party; reindeer "invisible"

I'm sure glad we had our camera with us on Christmas Eve.
At least we now we have proof that Santa Claus arrived and gave out presents to the two good little girls and three good little boys who were there sporting their new pajamas.

Sophia, center, asked Santa where the reindeer were. She said her cousin, Zachary, right, wanted to know. ha ha

Santa told her the reindeer are invisible.

Children make Christmas special

Vintage Christmas greetings ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

OK, it's after 10 a.m. Christmas Day 2009 and I still need to wrap some presents. Luckily Kid One and Kid Two are asleep. This is certainly not like the old days, when they would be up at dawn to see what Santa brought them.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Christmas rush continues

I'd wish everyone a Merry Christmas right now, but I don't have time to sit here and post. I gotta go shopping.
Can you believe it?

At least I had time to write this. ;-)

Have a fun day today, getting ready for Santa and those big old reindeer.

Seasonal question ~ any thoughts?

I just read the lyrics to "Up on the Housetop" and the first line said, "Up on the housetop reindeer pause ..."

I always thought it was "reindeer paws."

Either way works, I suppose.
