Minor miracle, horticulturally speaking

Yup, my poinsettia is still with us eight months after Christmas.

This has never happened before.

Violets are blue...and white...and purple...

Several thoughtful co-workers sent me this lovely basket full of three African Violet plants Saturday in anticipation of some (hopefully minor) same-day surgery I'm going to have Monday.

It was such a nice surprise! I took it outside in the natural light to get a good photo.
Also yesterday I received a big box of assorted nostalgia candies for baby boomers from the (ahem) 1950s. It was supposed to arrive Monday so I could have a treat after the procedure, but I've already dug into it since it is here on the counter.
Wax lips, anyone? Or how about a candy necklace?

...and lemons are yellow.

I'll surely have some good fodder for my blog when I'm done with this medical stuff.
I'm trying my best to make lemonade out of the lemons that life decided to give me.

Floral fun

I bought this plant today. I like the yellows and oranges.
I keep having ideas for how to spruce up the yard. The problem is they all cost money.

So, should I just pull out the credit card? I'm thinking that's what I should do.
After all, we want our property to look nice. All the neighbors keeps theirs neat and tidy around here. Well, we do too, but I think we need more FLOWERS and yard art. More exterior decorating!

We must all "cultivate our garden" as good old Voltaire said way back in the 18th century. I tend to agree with him.

Bloomin' yucca

This is part of a second, smaller yucca plant we have growing in front of the house. I had to cut down the stalks on the bigger one because they blocked the front window. And the petals were falling off. Not good.
I took this in the morning sun today. I like the photo and the shadows on the railing.

Morning playtime, kitty style

This morning Ralph called me in to see Rigby silhouetted behind the drape. I love the ears.
The cat likes sniffing around the Christmas cactus. Actually he sniffs everything in the house!

And this is what happens when you don't supervise kitties with your plants:

Does he look guilty? At least when the plant fell off the windowsill it didn't land upside down. Don't need to be cleaning up potting soil. I've got better things to do with my time.

Ah, pets. Always available to supply us bloggers with fresh post ideas.

I make the effort

I took this photo in '04 but the message holds true today.
Sometimes I have a few issues with my flower garden.
The house plants are doing pretty well, though.
