Shadow Shot Sunday ~ sculpture and snow

I spotted this yesterday as I was leaving a company headquarters that I visited for a story for my job.
I'm not sure what it is, other than an interesting piece of art.

Any ideas?

We're expecting another snowstorm today here in Connecticut ...off to the grocery store (of course).

Hope you have a great weekend, snowy or not!

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ on Sunday

This is my view outside the back window this morning. We had the dreariest weather imaginable yesterday - rainy and foggy - and I was happy to see sunshine and shadows when I woke up.

And so I had to take a photo!

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ scary

I snapped this photo earlier this month but never posted it.

I think today is the day to use it since Halloween is fast approaching!

Here's a video clip featuring my favorite scarecrow.  Enjoy.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ after the reception

Shadows sometimes appear at night, as I found out Thursday when we were leaving a Valley Arts Council opening reception.
The guy on the right is our friend and arts council president Rich DiCarlo. And behind him is a shadow of yours truly taking the shot.

Ralph and I both have photos of food in the food-themed 'Delicious!' exhibit.
A good-sized crowd turned out - and it was free pizza for all!

It was a fun night.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ guard duty

This pharmacy is next to a fast food place, so Mr. Gull isn't guarding anything but rather just waiting for French fries on a Friday afternoon.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ peekin' through

Saw this next to our front walk the other day and had to take a photo for this week's Shadow Shot Sunday!

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ midair

I enjoyed watching this tyke learning how to bounce a basketball at a back to school event Ralph and I attended Sunday.
We are members of the local Salvation Army's advisory board and helped out a bit at the event.
There were a lot of volunteers there so we really didn't have to do too much!
But we gave our moral support to the effort. I'd say a good time was had by all.

And here he is looking at the dunk tank, which I'm sure he would have liked to try out!

Shadow Shot Sunday

I dug into the "archives" this morning to find a photo so I could join in Shadow Shot Sunday!
I've been away too long from this fun meme.

I took this in September 2010. It's a mulberry tree in our front yard.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Good thing I took this photo when I did, on May 1. Since then the geranium blooms have disappeared; sadly the weather got cold again. I do hope they'll return.

I used this pic in a post yesterday, but I think I spy some shadows here.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ starring Shadow

Hmm...now what should I do?

This is our friends' cat, Shadow, enjoying some sunshine Tuesday afternoon.

He escaped out the front door and I happened to have my camera with me.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ cat in sun

Linus was posing for me early this morning, and he didn't even know it.  =^..^=

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ mystery man

Ralph (Airhead 55) at the computer.

And now ... just what you've all been waiting for - a portrait of Ralph from earlier this week.
He's wearing his wheelchair-friendly Snuggy to keep warm in our drafty house.

The laptop screen died, so he had to buy a monitor.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Blizzard-rific

So...we got a bit of snow here in Connecticut. Been busy today and almost didn't play Shadow Shots but Ralph encouraged me to do so.

Looking out the back window, photo is crooked on purpose...

This is the patio. Lots of drifts. Those aren't footsteps, but rather ice drops on the window screen.

And then the men in trucks arrived! We were all so happy to see a plow, yet we cannot get out of our driveway despite the heroic efforts of our two children.

It's pretty out there today but I'm just about ready for spring.

It's fun seeking shadows..and the more you see, the more you see.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ winter sunshine

I happened to see these shadows the other morning by our front door.

'Twas just a dusting of white stuff.  ;-)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Brrr

I used this photo I snapped yesterday morning as a 'mystery photo' for the View from the Valley blog I handle for the New Haven Register. A reader guessed it right away!

The chilly scene is a reservoir in Derby, Ct.

The photo has some shadows in it, so I thought I'd use it again here, since I haven't taken many photos this week!

Ruby Tuesday ~ art

As I wondered what I could use for a Ruby Tuesday post it dawned on me that the walls of the Valley Arts Council's Gallery@37 are red.
Perfecto!

Ralph and I are members and supporters of the arts council and have had some of our photos displayed there.

Here are three of my favorite pieces from the October show, "Magic and Mysticism: The Art of Believing":

This is "Serenity" by Valley Arts Council President Rich DiCarlo.

This painting, "Looking Glass,' was created by Valley Arts Council Vice President Steve DiRienzo.

Arts council member Len Grayeck painted "Secrets" for the show.

P.S. I write a blog, Brush Strokes, for the Valley Arts Council. Please check it out.  ;-)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ cherubic

Since the Christmas season is winding down - tomorrow is the "Twelfth Day of Christmas" - I thought I'd use ornament photos to mark the occasion. I was having fun experimenting!

Ruby Tuesday ~ Season of giving

I recently wrote a story about our local Salvation Army's Christmas distribution of food and gifts to the needy.

These figurines garbed in old-fashioned Salvation Army uniforms that were on a table in the sanctuary caught my eye while I was there.
I imagine they're singing Christmas carols and ringing the bell to get folks to put a donation in the red Christmas kettle.

~

One of my New Year's resolutions is to participate in Ruby Tuesday as I once did! So here I am.

I wish a Happy and Healthy 2013 to all my blog friends!

Shadow Shot Sunday

Since we are expecting snow to fall later today I thought I'd re-post an oldie but goodie I captured a few winters ago.

I love gnomes! It says Gnome for the Holidays on the bottom of the ornament.

I also love snow people!

Wishing a Happy New Year 2013 to all ~ May this year be your best ever.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ on the Green

This is part of the Green in Derby, Ct.
I took this on Thursday, a beautiful sunny day, as I stood in front of the stately Sterling Opera House on Elizabeth Street.

Immanuel-St. James Episcopal Church, built in 1843, is one of three historic churches that surround the Green. The other two are the Methodist Church, and the Second Congregational Church.
They are all beautiful in their own ways.

P.S. Here's a poem that popped out of my keyboard this morning. Let's just say it's a true story.

The tree isn't up.
The gifts aren't bought.

Going shopping today?
I'm giving it a thought.

The cards they're not sent.
Don't know where the time went.

But I have time today

for what needs to be.

To the stores I will go

And won't think 'poor me'

As I join the crowd
No whining allowed!

For it's the Yuletide season

And that's the reason

I'm sending this today.
And may Santa to your house find his way!
