I took this photo in April of 2005 in Paris while on a wonderful trip with my daughter and a group of high school students. .

I wasn't a chaperone, just along for the fun. Of course that meant I had to pay for the trip. Nevertheless I felt like a chaperone, always counting heads and looking around for a wandering teen-ager or two or three!

Looking at the Sky ~ in Paris

I haven't taken any sky photos lately, nor have I participated in Tisha's wonderful meme. But I'm back.

I found this photo our daughter took in 2005 from a boat (Bateau Mouche) as we were floating down the Seine on an April evening. Doesn't that sound delightful? It was.

It is one of three replicas of Lady Liberty in Paris, but the only one we saw.

According to Wikipedia, this one is near the Grenelle Bridge on the Ile des Cygnes, an island in the Seine. It was dedicated Nov. 15, 1889 and looks toward the Atlantic Ocean and its "larger sister" in New York Harbor.

You can see that Allegra caught part of the Eiffel Tower in the background. We'll go back there someday. I hope!

~ Looking at the Sky ~ in Paris

I didn't have a fresh, new sky photo to post today, so Ralph suggested I go back into our dusty, old archives. So I did. Tee hee.
This picture shows but a small portion of the beautiful Gothic cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris. It's a must-see when in Paris. I took it on a school trip with my daughter in April 2005.
I like the dramatic clouds.

Ruby Tuesday

I didn't have any current photos featuring the color red to share, so I dug through our archives, something that Ralph often does. He is one sentimental guy when it comes to old photos!
As you can see I took this more than five years ago. This is where we stayed when I accompanied our daughter's first high school trip to Paris. Yes, we went twice; I have no idea how I pulled that one off! I think I'm still paying for those two memorable trips, but c'est la vie.

Creative Photo

When I haven't taken a particularly creative photo during the week, I fall back on my archives from when I was fortunate enough to travel to Paris twice with my daughter on school trips, in February, 2004 and April, 2005.

The photo shows a small part of King Louis XIV's 'backyard,' for lack of a better term, at the 700-room Palace of Versailles.

It was taken on Feb. 19, 2004 on a cold and dreary day. I was wandering about for awhile by myself, after getting separated from the group.
Below I gave the photo some 'hue.' Oui, oui!

Creative Photo #16 - Week 2

I took this in Paris in February, 2004. We had to stand in line for a long time to get into the Musee d'Orsay but it was well worth the wait out in the cold.

When we inched closer to the entrance of the huge building (a former railway station) there were several sidewalk performers there to entertain the crowd. Here is one of them. I wish I could tell you what song he was playing.

As you can see, I took this photo in Paris on Feb. 19, 2004. If I had cropped out the time and date stamp I would have lost the base of the obelisk, so I didn't.
I love the colors of the sky in this shot.

Ah, Paris. The Louvre.
I wish I were back there.

But I was there...and so was our daughter. Yay for that. If I had known at the time I was going to be blogging four years in the future I may have taken more and better photos.
But that was long before I knew Roger at Idaho Photo, and his Creative Photography contest.

This blurred photo was taken through a window on a Bateau Mouche as the vessel slowly floated down the Seine on a cold February evening in 2004.

Poor Georges. Is he trying to get out of there, or is he just pulling the cover down to get some peace and quiet?
I snapped this in February 2004 in Paris while strolling through what Wikipedia calls the most-visited cemetery in the world, Pere-Lachaise.
Many famous people are buried there, including Frederic Chopin, Eugene Delacroix, Isadora Duncan, Marcel Marceau, Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Marcel Proust, and Jim Morrison.
We visited Morrison's gravesite, which had a security guard stationed at it, but I found Georges' tombstone much more interesting!

My first entry is a photo I took in Paris in February 2004. I was there on a school trip with my darling daughter.

This is my entry for Week 2 of Roger's creative photography contest.
Our daughter snapped it when we were in Paris on a school trip in February 2004.
What I like is she was able to get the shot through the bus window. If it doesn't look sharp and clear, that's why. But I love it.

This was cool

At dinner tonight Kid One and I were reminiscing about how when we went to London ('05 high school trip) our tour guide, Francy, had the bus driver stop on our way to Heathrow so Allegra could photograph the Battersea Power Station.
Francy, the bestest guide in the world, accompanied us to London after our stay in Paris. Thank goodness he did. We would not have had as good a time in London if he hadn't been there.
He is a musician and he enjoyed getting to know the teen-agers in the group and their musical tastes.
Francy knew how much Allegra shared his love for Pink Floyd, so when the bus driver was taking us to the airport that Sunday morning he asked him to stop, so she could take a picture.
It was just one of those cool things that happen in life.
The power plant is pictured on the cover of Pink Floyd's "Animals" album from 1977, which you can see below.


Hard to believe this middle-aged mom still has some coolness left, isn't it?

C'est magnifique!

As any regular reader of this blog knows (all three of you), I love Paris.

This is my favorite of all the photos I took when I was in Paris in '05. I had to show it off.

That's the river Seine, boys and girls, and you can see part of the magnificent gothic cathedral, Notre-Dame de Paris, on the left.
I sound like a tour guide! Someday I will return...
