Shadow Shot Sunday 2 ~ New Haven Harbor

I snapped this last March when I was with my friend Linda (Duchess of Norwich-Upon-Thames) on a girls' day out, two days before I had breast cancer surgery.
Linda was so kind to take me out for some fun before my upcoming operation and recuperation. And we did indeed have a good (albeit chilly) time driving around taking photos, eating lunch and shopping (and giggling) at IKEA.

We went to Fort Nathan Hale Park in New Haven (Ct.) to take photos, and found that the Elm City skyline was good for photographing as well.
Ralph told me this photo has some shadows in it, and encouraged me to use it today. ;-)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Sunday morning shadows

Living up to my moniker (Late Bloomer Boomer) I am late in finding and posting shadows for this week. I just took these shots outside the front door this morning. The sun is shining brightly after yesterday's snowstorm.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ getting into the holiday spirit

I'm not one for November Christmas trees, but yesterday Allegra and I toured the classic Osborne Homestead Museum in Derby, Ct., where I spied these shadows created by the morning sunshine.
Each year local garden clubs decorate the home for the holidays. It opened for tours on Friday.

I wrote a story about it for the paper, which you can read here.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ road trip

Last Saturday I accompanied my blog and real-life friend Linda, of Are We There Yet? and The Distracted Wanderer fame to find some fall foliage.

You'd think being in southern New England in October we'd find some.

Not really.

But I did get some shadow shots! We headed to northern Connecticut, not much color. We went into Massachusetts. Still not much color to be found.

When Linda discovered it was a mere 38 more miles to Bennington, Vt., we headed there. My guess was the foliage there was about at 10 percent color.

Boo hiss. But we had fun trying and exploring...and the weather was spectacular. Sunny and actually too warm for October. Linda and I both prefer "crisp" air.
But that was OK.

And at least we found some wildlife!
We saw a beaver.

And a moose!

(taken from the passenger seat ~ we didn't feel like getting out and dealing with the crowds)

And we later spotted yet another moose on a sidewalk in Massachusetts on our way home. (Photo quality is poor because I snapped it through the windshield when we were stopped at a red light.)

And I have many more shadowy shots to share from the day in future posts. So all was not lost ~ just the hoped-for colors of autumn!

Luckily I had my camera along.

Shadow Shot Sunday

I took these photos of two Protestant churches that grace the Derby, Ct. Green at the same time I took the third shadow shot in last week's post, during a free concert we attended. It was a beautiful evening. The photo above is of Immanuel-St. James Church.

Alert readers will get the idea that I have posted photos of both of these churches before. Can you tell I rarely go anywhere? Haha.

But I do love local history and old buildings. As a matter of fact, in case you were wondering how the historic Sterling Opera House fits into this scenario, it is just a few feet away from the Second Congregational Church seen below!
And alert readers will remember I love that old (and haunted) Sterling Opera House.

I'll make an attempt to find some shadows from another location for next week's meme. ;-)
Until then, happy shadow seeking.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Showered with hats

Last Sunday I was given a "hat shower" at church. Several friends brought hats - nine of them - for me to wear now that 98 percent of my hair has fallen out.

It was so much fun to open the bags and find hats of every description waiting inside!
I've worn a few of them this week, but still haven't gotten to them all.

I want to thank Mary R., Mary M., Evie, Anne, Jeanmarie and Donna for the wonderful surprise and for your thoughtfulness! It was a Sunday morning I'll always remember.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ melange

Some pinkness in our front yard.

Some purpleness next to the gazebo on the Derby, Ct. Green.

Outside the food court at a mall..I rarely go to malls; I was there on assignment Tuesday.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ spring evening

I snapped these as we made our way to an art gallery reception on Elizabeth Street in Derby, Ct.

The theme was Art Takes Wing, and I just happened to have a photo (see below) that I took in February 2010 that kinda fit the theme.
So I made an 8 x 10 enlargement and framed it and it has been on the wall there for three weeks. I think the exhibit is coming down today.

As you can see I did a lot of tweaking, to give the photo that 'artsy' effect. haha

I'll call this one "April in Paris." I left the date stamp on it so you can see I'm not making it up.

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ my pal

Linus enjoying the morning sunshine today...
I was going to use a lighthouse photo for Shadow Shot Sunday but when I got up this morning I found our Linus "posing" for a shadow photo.
I'll save the lighthouse for a future post. ;-)

Shadow Shot Sunday

Happy St. Patty's Day, a few days late!

Today I'm sharing a different kind of shadow shot post.
These decorated rubber duckies are entries in a contest at our community hospital in Derby, Ct.
The contest is part of a fund-raising campaign to benefit the Center for Breast Wellness, which just opened in January.
Rubber ducks are a passion of the new Center's director.
You can read more about the duckie competition here. Judging will be on Tuesday.

I'm now a patient of the Center for Breast Wellness, and the director is my surgeon. I decided to come out of the closet and blog about my experiences.
You can read about that here, and here, and hopefully I'll write more in the future. ;-)

Hope everyone's weekend is just ducky. (Sorry, had to say it!)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ bloomin'

"I'm not going to eat the blossoms, Mommy, really!"

Linus appears to be happy that the Christmas cactus finally bloomed this week.
Wrong season, but it's pretty.

Shadow Shot Sunday

I snapped this while sitting in my car in our church parking lot. The feathery shadows caught my eye.
I was going to post it three weeks ago! Better late than never.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Took this as the morning sun streamed into the dining room on New Year's Day.
That's the only shadow I captured. Guess it was another busy week!
Happy weekend to all!

Shadow Shot Sunday * snowy *

We had a blizzard here last Sunday and Monday. Here's a photo I took as our Allegra was looking for photos Monday once the snow had stopped.
I was lucky enough to catch a shadow on the snow.

I wish a Happy and Healthy 2011 to all my blogging friends!
