Shadow Shot Sunday

On Thursday I snapped some shadows I stumbled upon while taking a photo of a lamp post to go with a news feature.

I love mums!

And reflections!


These photos were taken in Veterans Park in Ansonia, Ct. After I took a photo of the lamp post, as an example of the ones that are being installed along our Main Street, I realized I caught more shadows. The stately structure is City Hall, built in 1905.

As you can see it was a beautiful early autumn afternoon.

I haven't aged a bit, nor has her dad. Hahahahahaha.

Creative Photo #14- Week 4

Here is "Autumn morning." How's that for an original name? Tee hee.
I like how the sky came out. The sun filtered through the clouds at an angle that gave the picture an interesting quality, I think.

Cows, autumn leaves make for a photo shoot

Yesterday I covered two early morning assignments, and after doing that I drove a few miles out where there is a bit of "country" left, in hopes of finding some interesting photos.
Instead I found these cows, lying down on the job. Click on the photos to get a better look.

I guess they are kinda interesting, in a boring sort of way.

Windshield views

Ralph already posted about our visiting Kid One and Kid Two Saturday at the University of Hartford. Today I'm sharing foliage photos I snapped through the windshield as Ralph drove the van toward Hartford.
These are just a few of the 80 skadillion pix I took to amuse myself on the drive.

October Orange

I shot this photo Wednesday (Oct. 15 ) to post on a blog for the newspaper. This beautiful tree is about a mile from our house, in a residential neighborhood.

I also photographed the tree on Oct. 4 - look how it changed in nine days!


Full disclosure: I didn't get out of the car either time. If I had, I might have been able to get a photo without telephone wires, but that's the way it goes.

First fall foliage and festival fun

I haven't posted in a few days. Life can get in the way of blogging, as we all know.
Yesterday we went to our city's Harvest Festival on Main Street. On the way I stopped the car and took a picture of this old tree, which has just started to change color. Lots of green leaves left. Too bad about the wires.

The festival was a lot of old-fashioned fun, and the best part of it is that a friend of ours is the chairwoman of the event. She has been in charge of it since its inception five years ago, and now seems to have it down to a science. She makes organizing a street fest look easy!
The weather turned out to be beautiful and sunny, after a really chilly morning.
After we parked I photographed some dramatic clouds.





I never said this post was going to be exciting.





But it will give you a glimpse into our day. Keep scrolling.





There is always a pumpkin-carving contest for the school kids. They make their creations at home then bring them to the judging and put them on display in the park next to City Hall. A storyteller was on hand to spin spooky tales for the young'uns.























I took the picture below of the scene on Upper Main Street because of the historic aspect of the towering 19th century building on the left. It's the oldest opera house in Connecticut, and our newspaper's satellite office used to be housed in one of the storefronts. In other words, I feel a connection to the grand old edifice.

There were goats, and ponies, and scarecrows, and even Ralph, a.k.a. Airhead 55 ...

He actually took some artsy shots which he will share this week for Ruby Tuesday and Creative Photography.
I just kinda snapped away, and didn't seek out any artistic angles.










Would you buy furniture from these guys? ^ Me neither.

Yes, in the picture below we have an abandoned factory building. I wish it would be torn down, as do many other people I'm sure. It's across the street from the opera house.

Well, it's a street festival, not a country fair. And we do what we can to celebrate fall!

Fishing for a post ~ maybe fish oil would help

Some days I feel like talking, other days, not so much. I can go for hours and hours without uttering a word, or revealing myself in a blog post. Maybe I need some of that fish oil prescription that Empress Bee has been taking lately. She never seems to be at a loss for words.

She goes off on tangents, but they are interesting tangents, so it's all good. And she draws some great doodles. I love them. She has a whole cast of characters in her imagination that she shares with us.

Here are some pix I took last autumn in our backyard. I used a saturation effect on the third one, to brighten the colors or something. It's fun to play around.
I'm looking forward to seeing and photographing these beautiful colors again next month. October is beautiful, isn't it?
