Shadow Shot Sunday ~ at the gallery

Last Saturday night we attended the opening reception for a funky art show at the Valley Arts Council's Gallery@37 in Derby, Ct. We had fun and were happy about a great turnout.

I didn't even know what Steampunk art was until January when my artist friends in the Council started planning the event.

 One of the walls:

My sepia-tone photos are on the left and upper right. I used a skeleton key with the word "memory" inscribed on it as a prop. The third piece is a painting of a woman with butterfly wings done by a local artist. Maybe someday I'll learn how to paint. ;-)

The left photo is a butterfly as I hope you can tell, and the top photo is of my stained-glass bunny duck. I placed the key under it to make it resemble a wind-up toy. Below are the close-ups.

And below you see a sideways shadow of my footsies when we were outside the gallery.

Ralph also posted today about the gallery opening ~ please visit him too!

Happy early spring

Took a work break and went outside for a minute.

I call these photos "Yellow forsythia against a beautiful blue midday sky." Descriptive, eh?

The pix are straight out of the camera.

No time left for bloggin'

Darned FB. Takes up my recreational computer-use time.

I love blogging and visiting but haven't kept up with it. What's a woman to do? Win the lottery and stay home and blog to my heart's content.

Barring that, I guess I just have to cut back on FB and a certain couple of games I play that become addicting.

 ~

In other news,  I'm not a big pierogi fan, but I found a new frozen variety - filled with potato, spinach and feta cheese - and sauteed them last night. I added some shrimp sauteed in garlic, as the package recommended.
It sounds weird but it was tasty. We all liked it. Had spring greens with oil and vinegar on the side. A fairly healthy meal, I suppose.

This morning I met an adorable 13-year old girl who won an essay contest and is traveling out of state with her parents to be honored next week.

I'm about to write a story about her. It's so nice to meet good kids.

Last week I wrote about four high school students who took first place in a regional Junior Achievement contest, beating out 15 other schools that are in much more affluent towns than ours. woo hoo!

I also wrote about a group of fourth through sixth graders in a character counts club who worked on a mural about the pillars of character that now graces the school corridor.

It's great to be able to write about the good kids who are doing good things!

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ waiting for Allegra

Our daughter marched in New Haven, Ct.'s St. Patrick's Day Parade March 11; the crowd was huge (I've heard it is the second biggest St. Paddy's parade in the country after NYC).
It was an absolutely gorgeous, almost-Spring afternoon.

We dropped Allegra off, since we have Ralph's wheelchair with which to deal. Allegra was part of a small group wearing Colonial costumes representing the Derby (Ct.) Historical Society. If she participates next year, we'll have to plan to to get there really early so Ralph can find a good spot to park his van and get through the throngs of people along the parade route.

I spied these shadows as we sat in the van waiting for her to find us. Ralph parked a few streets over from all the action.
We didn't spend the entire time parked here, we visited the nearby IKEA for lunch and plenty of people-watching. What a busy store that is!

I was going to post these pix last Saturday for SSS2, but sadly I didn't get around to it. I guess I am a "late" bloomer. ;-)

Sunny bunny and friend

Linus doesn't seem to mind sharing the sunny window.

I'm on a roll lately posting about my daily life. Domesticity can be fascinating, don't you think?

Don't answer that!

* Update to Tuesday's post

I found one of the three steak knives I had lost that I wrote about here on Tuesday

It was in a refrigerator drawer next to some celery.

I have no idea how it got there. Very odd.

That's all I have for now.

Happy Friday to all!

Breast cancer journal continues ...

Not quite done yet with my online journal. Today my radiation oncologist told me I didn't have to see her any more. Yay!

Not that I minded seeing her. She is very sweet and supportive.

Now I am only going to see the other two oncologists on an every six months schedule. Sounds good to me.

Next appointment is in July. And it will be here before I know it, the way time is flying by!

I've been taking Arimidex since Feb. 2 and no side effects that I can tell. I was concerned about joint pain but knock on wood I'm OK.

In other news, my hair is growing pretty fast. It's starting to get curly in the back, getting a mind of its own and doing whatever it pleases.

Double yay!

Oh, nooo! Not my hyacinth

Yesterday afternoon our friendly pest-elimination specialist stopped by for our monthly check.

About a decade ago we came down with termites and had to have the underground tubes installed around the foundation to kick those guys back to where they came from. And we haven't had a problem since, thankfully

But yesterday the guy TRAMPLED the budding hyacinth that I wrote about here last Wednesday to get to one of the underground tubes he checks.

Here's the result:

This is what it looked like a week ago:

I know this is a silly concern in the scheme of things, but it's temporarily keeping my mind off of more serious (financial and health-related) issues we are attempting to deal with around here!

The case of the missing steak knives

When I was setting the table for dinner last night I noticed that three steak knives had vanished from the kitchen drawer. I had them on Sunday.

They weren't in the dishwasher; they were nowhere to be found.

I must have inadvertently thrown them out when I was clearing the plates Sunday night.

Incessant multi-tasking will indeed cause your brain to short circuit.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Sunny mornings at our house...

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 ~ in the kitchen

I'm running late this weekend..I got distracted yesterday with 'stuff'' and didn't post a shadow in the morning as I had planned. I'm so unlike my husband, who is always posting early! Maybe next week I'll get to it first. We'll see.

This one is straight out of the camera from a couple of months ago.

Happy Sunday to all!
