Staycation Day 2 =^ . . ^=

Linus and Rigby, The Brothers Furr, asked if they could narrate the photos from Day 2 of our Staycation. I said sure, as long as they were good cats.



"For breakfast Mommy made pancakes for the family. She said they got a little "burnt" but I think this one looks like Mr. Sun."

"Daddy took us to a parade, but when we got there he said we were too late."


"When we got home, we watched our big brother use his computer. He uses it a lot."


"Mommy says the photo is blurry because she was in a hurry. Mommy is always in a hurry."




"Daddy says the best part of a staycation is that you stay close to home, and you don't have to buy much gasoline. He said his van uses a lot of gas."
































"Mommy says she might take us with her tomorrow when she has to work."




"What's work Rigby?"





"I dunno, Linus."

Staycationing with The Brothers Furr

Time to share some pictures from our staycation.

We landed safely in the front yard after an almost turbulence-free flight.



Look who greeted us on the tarmac!

It was lovely getting to know a celebrity. He's quite charming.







Libby, the neighbor's cat, must have heard the plane engine. She ran across the street to greet us, almost knocking over one of our garden gnomes with her enthusiasm.


Once we got inside, we had to accompany The Brothers Furr at the slider to look at the birds and squirrels frolicking on the patio.
















Water sports?

Well, Rigby found some water to play in.



To really enjoy your staycation, it helps to have a good imagination. He certainly has one of those.

After the water fun, Rigby went into the living room to mix it up with Linus.

After that we had a snack. Gold cake with toasted coconut frosting. The cats even shared a piece, since it was a holiday of sorts.


After playing and snacking and plane-riding, it was time for a rest.

A catnap, you might say.

Creative photograph

Our son, Kid Two, was born the day after Thanksgiving in 1990. Since then his birthday has fallen on turkey day three times.
This was taken in 2006, his 16th birthday.
Now it's my entry into Roger's Creative Photography contest #6.

I took a cue from other contestants and played around with the photo this week. Does that make me a copy cat? Or just a turkey?

Don't get a flat tire by running over a curb in the 90-degree noonday sun.

Bad move.

Planning another pity party for Patti today. And for my daughter, who consequently had to go without lunch.
I was attempting to pick her up from work and take her to get something to eat. After the nice man from AAA changed my tire, I was able to get lunch. But she didn't get anything. She works at a preschool so she said she would have whatever the kiddos were having for a snack.

(I know you will be reading this later Allegra, so Mumsie apologizes again.)

Woopsie doodley-do

Yesterday afternoon I was in a rush to go pick up Kid One from her job and I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED MY BLOG ROLL.
I was adding a new friend (The Teach) and I messed up.

Haste makes waste, as someone once said a long time ago.

Ralph has already offered to redo it for me, since I am GRUMPY from the heat and humidity.

I went outside early this morning in the rain to capture the season's first Tiger Lily blooming.














When I turned around to come back in, this is what I saw:




"What's mommy doing outside in the rain, Linus?"


"I dunno, Rigby, but I hope she comes back in soon. I'm hungry."


"Me too."

Last Tuesday I posted a photo of this old steel span I snapped last September. When we were out this afternoon I took a photo of it from a different angle, as we were waiting at the light on another bridge.

Not too exciting, but I wanted to post something today.

One more about the cats =^. .^ =

My daughter thinks I take way too many photos of these cats. But I can't help myself. I spend an awful lot of time with them, and they are fairly easy to capture on camera.

It's blurry, but you can see the brotherly resemblance pretty well in this picture.

Why are they so tired?

They do almost nothing.

Our little guy is now 6 feet, 3 inches tall.
It looks like Cameron was enjoying his bath!

Photos from a picture-perfect day

I was going through some old photos yesterday and found these taken when we participated in a fund-raising walk last September. It was a beautiful morning.


They are taken along the Housatonic River between Derby and Shelton, Ct.

I like to look for the beauty in normally not-so-beautiful things, like this metal bridge.

~ Ruby Tuesday ~

This photo depicts delicate white blossoms that bloom briefly in late June in front of our dining room window. With all the colorizing I did the white drainpipe came out an unusual shade of green.

I colored the blossoms red so I could participate again in Ruby Tuesday.

Fourth of July revisited

On Saturday we went to a fireworks display in Manchester, Ct. Our daughter, Kid One (seen below at family picnic earlier in the day with Boyfriend) was in charge of the camera.

Our family had a fun Fourth, despite rather crummy weather. It was overcast and drizzly most of the weekend. We went to Ralph's sister's house, as we do each Fourth of July (thanks, Michele for everything!)
We had hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, cookies, brownies, and, yes, Bee, we had yummy gold cake with butter cream frosting, in honor of several July birthday babies in attendance.
I only had one piece, and stayed away from all those cookies and brownies.
Really.

Creative photograph

Poor Georges. Is he trying to get out of there, or is he just pulling the cover down to get some peace and quiet?
I snapped this in February 2004 in Paris while strolling through what Wikipedia calls the most-visited cemetery in the world, Pere-Lachaise.
Many famous people are buried there, including Frederic Chopin, Eugene Delacroix, Isadora Duncan, Marcel Marceau, Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, Marcel Proust, and Jim Morrison.
We visited Morrison's gravesite, which had a security guard stationed at it, but I found Georges' tombstone much more interesting!
