Does anyone know what this is?
Does anyone care?
If you said my hand and wrist with a weird thing on it, you'd be correct.
People have told me the picture looks ominous, like I have some kind of science-fiction style ray gun on my person. Trust me I do not own any weapons of any sort.
Having this attached to me was no joking matter. But I survived. And I have a great story to tell my grandchildren, if I ever have any. ;=)

Let's see...I think it's a wristjack used to help wrist fractures heal correctly. This is why I was a librarian...I love searching for fascinating information.
When I was five and broke my wrist, all I got was a hot, itchy 6-week cast. I would have been the coolest kid in the neighborhood if they'd had wristjacks back then.
It reminds me of the "halo" two of my friends had to wear because they broke their necks. Obviously it's on your wrist...what the heck did you do to need that?...and tell me...how does the other guy look?
You are correct, Joan! It's a wrist jack. I'm impressed.
My advice is, try not to ever have to wear one. It's an interesting eight weeks if you do.
Lynn, sorry about your friends breaking their necks. Sounds absolutely horrible. Hope they are both ok now.
I fell on my wrist from a height of about 3 feet or so.
The other guy is no longer with us. Just kidding. That is the exact same question the anesthesiology tech asked when I was being wheeled into the operating room. They sure are a jovial bunch in the OR!
I posted the picture to lead into some more serious topics someday...
Thanks for reading.
