Random childhood memories

One day a few weeks back I started recalling the names of all the dogs in my neighborhood when I was growing up. I don't know why, but I did. This was back when dogs used to run around the neighborhood with us.

My best friend Suzy's family had Gus, followed by Harry, followed by Max. Then they moved out of state and Max went with them. haha
Next door to them was a family with three girls. They had another "girl," Peggy, who was a Dalmatian.
Down the street from them was a HUGE black dog, Tuffy. We were all scared of him.
Next door to us was Charpo, followed by Leo, both black dogs. Maybe they were part-Labs.

A girl who lived around the corner and down the hill a bit used to come play with us. She was kinda obnoxious, but we tolerated her. Maybe it was because she was never without her German shepherd, Hans, by her side!
I think her mother, who had some "problems" figured she could let Debbie roam the neighborhood because Hans would protect her.

And the piece de resistance: our friends across the street had Jacques as part of the family. He, of course, was a standard French poodle. The father accidentally ran over the poor guy's foot in the driveway one day. But Jacques recuperated from that horrible incident.

And moi? No dogs, but I had a parakeet named Happy when I was 5. She (he) died of some icky skin condition. My father buried Happy in a shoebox in the backyard.

A few years later I had some little green turtles. Don't remember if I named them. Then when I was older I got some tropical fish. I know I didn't name them. The aquarium leaked on my mother's dining room floor. Eeek.
Notice how I didn't have any furry creatures as pets. :-(

But I'm making up for it now, with our felines, Linus and Rigby, who were preceded by our first furry guy, Humphrey. He passed away in June 2007.
I hope you enjoyed accompanying me down memory lane today.

Flowers are a girl's best friend

Today's post offers a perfect example of taking the bitter with the better. I'll explain:

The other day I was overjoyed to see that I had actually planted a pink hyacinth from last Easter. I had no memory of doing so. A blanket of leaves kept it safe and warm all winter.
A touch of spring for us to enjoy.

In other floral news, I sadly report that our frisky felines ate the blossoms on the pretty purple potted pansy plant presented to moi by Duchess Linda last Saturday. (see photo below)

I have been trying to make the photo straight, but no can do. I'm not only frustrated with my felines, I'm frustrated with my lack of technical skills. But if you tilt your head to the right you can see the pretty blossoms are gone, mere nubs of their former selves.
I hope they bloom again.
Darn kitty cats.
That's about it from my neck of the woods. Happy Spring to all ~

Not spooky v. spooky ~ Part 4

Not spooky: A winsome Rigby watching as Ralph gets out of the van.

Awww...look at that little baby face.

Spooky: Two cats waiting for Halloween.

'Rigbert of the Opera'

Rigby was looking out the front door at me ("Are you coming back in the house, Mommy?") when I took this picture. To me he looks like he is wearing a 'Phantom of the Opera' mask. Maybe that's just me.

Below I gave the photo some contrast. Spooky? Not really.

Now this last photo. That's spooky.

As you can see, I am gearing up for all things Halloween. I may even share some spooky jokes and Halloween riddles. Woo-hoo!

Cats ~ and what to call them

In our family, we (Mumsie, Daddums, Kids One and Two) all love The Beatles, so last night as we were talking about possible names for our future felines we came up with Ringo.

Not definite yet, but a definite possibility.
Just thought I'd mention that to get any thoughts my blog buddies may have.

Re: Kitty cat(s)

Ralph and I may soon be getting, or should I say adopting, an adult cat. Or maybe even two.
That's all I'm going to say right now.

Stay tuned.

Name that cat

We hope to get a kitty cat soon. If it's a girl, the four of us are agreed on calling her Isadora.
"Isadora is adorable." Cute, no?

If it's a boy, we have several suggested names posted on the refrigerator.
1) Anson (historic significance)
2) Horatio
3) Milo
4) Boochie (my personal fave)

The children are voting for Milo or even Yossarian (think Catch-22).
Any ideas?
