It's true there's gno place like gnome!

Our daughter knows me well.

These gnomes were my Mother's Day gift from her.

Who says I don't welcome visitors?   ;-)

Shadow Shot Sunday ~ spring!

In honor of our wedding anniversary and Mother's Day this weekend, I'm posting two of my favorite folks today.
Shadowy figures, aren't they?

We were at Ralph's sister's house last Saturday to celebrate her granddaughter's First Holy Communion.
It was a nice day with family and the weather was perfect.

Lilacs bloomin' in our yard.

The weather was perfect for most of yesterday as well.
I spy some shadows in this photo I took yesterday morning.
Today is dreary and rainy. Hoping for sunshine tomorrow. ;-)

Cheerful tulips in the sun. Happy May!

And as I mentioned on Facebook yesterday, I don't even remember planting these Easter tulips last year. But I'm glad I did.

Ah, sunny mornings that create shadows in our yard.

I'm happy to be back posting shadow shots after two months.

Join in the fun and see more photos of shadows from across the globe at Shadow Shot Sunday 2.

* I wish all a Happy Shadow Shot Sunday and a Happy Mother's Day! *

Ah, motherhood

I hope all the moms I know had a wonderful day yesterday!

I enjoyed my day. Ralph and children made a delicious dinner for me and my mother.  ;-)

I think every day should be Mothers Day.  (or is that Mother's Day?) We deserve it.

Pink is the word

On Thursday I attended a rally that kicked off the local hospital's $1 million fund-raising campaign to build a breast wellness center.
The theme of the event was "For Love of Life, For Lives We Love."

So many of us know a friend, a sister, an aunt, or in my case my mother and grandmother, who have had breast cancer.

Since today is Mother's Day, I thought it was fitting to link the story here.

The committee co-chair, who is a 20-year survivor of the disease, talked about the importance of early detection in saving lives and surviving. Let this post be a reminder to all of us!

~ A day to celebrate ~ and play with clip art

Today is a day for flowers (if only the online kind!) and chocolates (I hope!) and a wonderful dinner prepared by Ralph, my Airhead 55. (yay!)

One kid is home, the boy. Maybe he will wish me a Happy Mother's Day. One can hope!
Whenever one or both of our children has come back from school my first thought when I wake up the next morning is that they are home. That's motherhood.

The second reason that we are celebrating today is that it's our wedding anniversary! We tied the knot 23 years ago today. Ralph wasn't using a wheelchair then, but these people kinda look like we did when we got married. May 10, 1986 was a wonderful day. The weather was perfect, as was our wedding.

Woo hoo!

Don't have much to say,
except have a wonderful day!

Ah, my kiddos

It's just not fair that the blogosphere wasn't around when my two children were little and cute.
I have lamented that fact before, and I am doing it again. Oh, the stuff that I could have blogged about.

Yesterday I was going through a drawer and found two scraps of paper, one from '93 and one from '95.
I had taken the advice of experienced moms to write amusing kid stuff down; it just wasn't always as organized as it could have (or should have) been.
So scribbled-on scraps of paper, and kitchen wall calendars filled with notes and such, are mostly what I have from those days.

Here goes : on Aug. 9, 1993, just weeks before Kid 1 was about to enter kindergarten, she was watching a video on fighter jets that were flying into the "wild blue yonder."
She turned to me and asked, "What's a yonder, Mommy?" (Glad I wrote that down).

A second scrap of paper was dated Sept. 12, 1995. Kid 1 had just started second grade. After breakfast, she got on the floor and laid down on her side.
"I just had my first kitten," she told me. "We have to go to the vet," she announced, and off she marched.

Another time I clearly recall and I'm sure I wrote down somewhere was when Kid 2 was 3.
He was in his car seat in back, and I was talking to my mother about an elderly man I had interviewed for the newspaper. He had been a prize fighter in his day.
I said to my mother, "Mr. So-and-So is retired." A little voice from the back seat commented, "He should take a nap."
